1st or Royal Regiment of Foot- (Foster) Sept, 1758, the 1st . With the 17th , 47th , 48th and Frasers were sent to Boston and from thence to proceed to the main army. In July, 1759 were encamped at Ft. Edward.
2nd Battalion of the 1st Regiment of Foot (Lt. Gen. James Sinclair) Feb., 1757, ordered to march for Cork for departure to America April, 1758. Detachments served on the frontier fighting Indians and protecting the British settlers from raids. Of this battalion, 854 were to serve under Amhurst at Louisbourg. The main force of the battalion was at the French surrender of Montreal in 1760. The battalion, minus two companies were sent to the Caribbean. The two detached companies then served in St. Johns, Newfoundland. The Regiment was sent home in 1763.
The First or Grenadier Regiment of Foot Guards originated in 1656, when the exiled King Charles II raised a regiment of Guards for his personal protection, giving the command to Colonel Lord Wentworth. Recruited from Loyal men who had followed their King into exile, it was styled The Royal Regiment of Guards. After King Charless restoration another regiment, The Kings Own Regiment of Foot Guards was raised in November 1660 under Colonel John Russell. Following Lord Wentworths death, in 1665, the two were combined to form The Royal Regiment of Foot Guards.
